For Dover the attached ‘Word’ document is a paper by John Gillingham who has written about Dover castle’s great tower  and the motivations for its building. Gillingham has published simplified versions of this since 2009, but the attached is a more academic paper. The Gillingham paper is an extract from the Dover monograph (not yet published), but which has been promised for a number of years.
