Castle Studies Group Privacy Statement

The new General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) came into force on 25 May 2018. It strengthens the protection of personal data in a number of ways, including increased transparency about how personal data is used and processed by organisations.

The Castle Studies Group (‘CSG’/’we’) wants to make sure that it is complying with these new regulations whilst still being able to keep in touch with you in order to manage your subscription and renewals, and to provide you, as a member, with our regular publications as a benefit of your membership.

WHAT DATA DO WE COLLECT?

CSG collects and processes personal information as part of your membership registration and renewal, comprising your name, email address and postal address.

HOW DO WE USE YOUR DATA?

We use the information you have provided (as defined above) to manage your subscription and renewal process, and to provide you with our regular publications as a benefit of your membership. Your data is stored electronically and will be available to committee members only. Your data will never be passed to third parties without your express consent.

If you supply an email address, this will be our preferred method of communication for everything except the annual journal which is distributed by post. If you do not have access to email your membership will be administered by post. You will receive the same communications as those members engaged with email (the bulletin and bibliography will be printed in black and white).

From time to time we may send additional communications outside of our formal publications, either by email or post, which will contain information that the committee has agreed may be of interest to our members. Such communications are likely to provide time-sensitive information, such as details of upcoming relevant conferences, or other castles-related news items that would otherwise be included in one of our regular publications. Other direct communication may be made regarding items such as ongoing research, conference organisation, obituaries and funeral arrangements etc. These additional communications are sent at the discretion of the committee and you can choose to opt out of receiving such communications at any time by contacting Richard Nevell our membership secretary at:

membership@castlestudiesgroup.org.uk

Opting out of additional communications will not affect delivery of your core membership benefits.

If you decide to terminate your membership, we will delete your personal information as soon as you resign, or 12 months after you cease to be a member though non-payment of the your subscription, if you fail to respond to renewal reminders.

ANY QUESTIONS?

If you have any questions regarding the collection, processing, storage and use of your data please contact us at membership@castlestudiesgroup.org.uk
